I really enjoy reading the classics, especially the great Russian authors. It would be interesting to discuss the big questions these books pose. Another persons perspective would add further layers to the work. I am semi-retired and have now got the time to deep dive into great works of literature. I live in Southampton.

Hi! I am 27 & have just moved to the Southampton area and am looking for like-minded people who love a good book! I love fiction and will read almost any subgenre - fantasy, historical, sci-fi you name it! Ultimately I just love a book that will move me - the best books make me laugh, cry & all the emotions in between. Would love to meet new friends who also share my passion for reading.

I love the rare occurrence when a book feels like the author must have somehow seen inside your head to so accurately convey thoughts & feelings you have previously experienced. This book was that for me and was a wonderful reminder that our shared human experience is more similar than we often realise!

The idea: a small, easygoing group meeting once a month in a cosy cafรฉ around Southampton (open to New Forest spots too, depending who's keen) to talk about the kind of books that actually earn their length โ€” Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, John Williams' Stoner, Jack London's Martin Eden. Big questions, flawed characters, sentences worth re-reading. Doesn't have to stay strictly Russian-and-American โ€” anything in that same vein is fair game. No pressure if you haven't finished the book. No one-upmanship. Just good coffee, better conversation, and people who actually want to talk about what they're reading rather than just being seen to read it. If that sounds like your kind of Saturday morning (or Tuesday evening โ€” happy to find what works for the group), get in touch. Even just tell me the last book that properly wrecked you โ€” that's usually the best icebreaker.

The characters are deeply flawed but enthralling. The whole plot is tightly woven with great dialogue and although the author tells you the outcome in the opening sentence, every aspect of this novel is surprising and brilliantly executed.

Seeking a book club

As a lifelong avid reader I am looking to join or start an in person book group to meet likeminded people with a passion for reading and even creative writing. My main literary passions are crime, psychological thrillers, character driven novels and social justice. I also do like to dip into the classics and a smattering of Gothic. I love Sabine Durrant, Liz Nugent, Kate Elizabeth Russell -but I could list forever. Please contact me if you have a group or are interested in joining me to start one!
