Gaming group

GM for 30 years, newly started a roleplay group, playing Saturday fortnightly at the Aldershot games shop. This is not a D&D group, we use a light rules system in a partly-homebrewed world that is dark, gritty low fantasy. (Barbarians of Lemuria!) I have two players, open to having a few more. The players have some leeway to be creative with their background and the parts of the world they are from, so they can invest in building the world, and in narrating part of their own adventure. What's important to me is that players can commit and want to roleplay in a the game I've described. Magic is not a common part of the game, while it is fantastical, magic is special and surprising. I've GM'd many systems over many years, and run many long lasting campaigns. We've been playing since May 2026 in this current campaign.

I used to be a voracious reader but I've fallen out of the habit since I started working after university. I'm looking for some extrinsic motivation to explore some new reads! I've only really read the classics but I'm very open minded to read some different genres :).

Seeking a book club

I've always loved reading and usually have several books on the go! I read a range of genres although am currently partial to crime/thrillers and dystopian stories. Have a few go-to authors where I'll read anything they publish but am always finding more to add to the list! I don't tend to reread books and will DNF if I'm not enjoying something - life's too short and there are still too many books I want to read! I prefer physical books as I get too distracted if I read on a screen. In my past life I was a school librarian & I've belonged to various book groups over the years but I'm now missing the lovely book chat!

This book has received a lot of hype of social media (which often puts me off) but decided to give it a try when I saw it in my local public library. Glad I did as I stormed through it! The main character, Kat, is a police officer who is given an AI-powered detective (Lock) to work with as part of a cold case project to prove that AI can improve police procedures and outcomes. Sounds strange but the relationship works! There's lots of back stories too that add interest. It's a detective crime genre with a touch of sci-fi! Book 2 is out now (and I've already read it) - can't wait for book 3!

Hi, I am looking to join a bookclub to encourage more active reading. I am generally an avaricious reader but think I could apply myself better to understanding and reviewing what I read. I live in Aldershot.
