Jack (Taunton)

Seeking a book club

Hi all, I'm Jack, mid twenties and going through my reformed reader phase, getting back into it after a while away! I'm a fan of the weird, and have been focusing on slipstream, philosophical SF and anything looking at the social and political, but I would love to start covering more classics, fantasy and graphic novels. I love new ideas and would love to be part of discussions, hear new ideas from people and otherwise build a nice space to learn about new things.

It has all the sarcastic and humanistic sensibilities of Terry Pratchett's language, but in scenarios you'd think were possible and people you can wholly imagine yourself wanting to meet. It's a wonderful thing to be able to have small snorts of laughter each page whilst still feeling terribly sad about the whole thing as the way Kurkov writes seems to make it clear that everything will end at some point.

Yasmin (Frome)

Seeking a gaming group

I'm new to DND- looking for a patient group to show me the ropes. I've been rolling for under 10s (Amazing Tales, homebrew) and dying to play real DND. I have a basic understanding of character creation, I have dice, I have copies of the player and monster manuals, but I have nobody to play with and dont know any DMs! I'm late to the game (in my 30s) but better late than never.

Played various tabletop RPG’s in my younger days. Avid pc gaming nerd, and I’ve recently finished playing a 5e campaign in person. Would love to find a playgroup/campaign with other 18+ individuals to escape from reality and share in creative freedoms.

Jade (Shepton Mallet)

Seeking a gaming group

We are Jade and Matt. I (Jade) have been playing d&d and other role-playing games for 10 years. Matt has been playing for 6 years. We've both been players and DM'd and we'd love to find other groups of people to join us in a long term group. We have been playing year+ long campaigns (3e and 5e) for a while, as well as Fallout Table Top RPG. We would like to meet either Sunday or Monday evenings, 20-30 miles within the area of Shepton Mallet. Likely Dungeons and Dragons (5e) to start but we would also like to try another Fallout campaign, Cyberpunk, homebrew campaigns or anything other table top RPG else anyone likes. πŸ™

Kathryn (South Petherton)

Seeking a book club

I'm a 22yr old about to finish a degree in Creative Writing. When it comes to books I'll give most things a go, but I particularly like Greek Myth retellings and romantasy. I'm a huge fan of ancient history, and history in general. I also enjoy hiking, horse-riding, comedy shows and musical theatre. I'm hoping to find some fellow book lovers in the local area.

Harvey (Yeovil)

Seeking a gaming group

Hi all. I love playing DnD, I have 3 years of experience as a player but not much as a DM, I mostly play DnD but I have tried other settings like dragon lance and I'm open to playing other table tops as long as I can afford itπŸ˜…. I'm 17 as of writing this and so I am young however I'm also mature enough to know how to have a good timeπŸ˜…. I'm looking for a party to join based in Yeovil as my usual members seem to be "busy" constantly.

AbiReadsBooks (Bath)

Seeking a book club

I love a good book and quite enjoy dipping into most genres, dystopian and a bit of a thriller are my favourites. My favourite book of the year so far has been Wedding People and I’m currently reading Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and listening to Year of the Locust by Terry Hayes. I’ve just moved to Somerset with my husband and our 2 young children and am looking to meet people in South Bath and the surrounding areas.

Jessica (Bath)

Seeking a book club

Hello, I'm really keen to find some lovely women to start an online book club with (fantasy, sci-fi, romantasy, grimdark sort of books) - Sarah J Maas, Joe Abercrombie, Holly Black, Raven Kennedy etc. I'm thinking an online club that meets fortnightly and in person (in Bath) perhaps every quarter. If this sounds like it suits you please get in touch :-)

Jessica recommends:

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Phenomenal world-building that envelops you immediately. You're taken on an enthralling journey of assassins, power, kingdoms and betrayal. There are some beautiful love stories involved, but it isn't a super sexual book which I oftentimes prefer to romantasy that can be quite graphic (good every now and then!) but Throne of Glass is an entire world that you're able to explore.

Railway Bookworm (Bridgwater)

Seeking a book club

I have always liked reading. I was indoctrinated from birth by my dad in all matters railway, but also love reading biographies of all types of people but especially anyone connected with contemporary music. I also am interested in matters to do with climate change. I'm looking to join I book club because there are several unknown authors who I think deserve to be discovered.

This is an exciting fast moving novel, featuring two teenagers who realised just how much danger the town below where they live is in because of recent very heavy flooding. It is basically about climate change. It is aimed at young adults but from the reviews that are available to see on Goodreads and Amazon has been enjoyed by adults as well
