Abosolutely devoured the first and second book in this series. An amazing love triangle with wolf shifters, enemies to lovers with forced proximity. I cannot wait for the third and final book to compete this trilogy!!!

The House of the Spirits feels so powerful because it mixes real political history with the emotional lives of multiple generations. Even though there’s magical realism, the characters and their struggles—especially the women—feel deeply human and believable. It shows how families survive love, violence, and dictatorship, which makes it feel emotionally real, even when the events are surreal.

I love how cleverly the arc developed, the change in Darcy's character as he had begun to acknowledge his feelings for Elizabeth, and her oblviousness to it making for an interesting read.

Dark magical fiction set in the Soviet Union (but with light overtones) - Satan appears as a professor, enters Moscow and wreaks havoc on the sensibilities of the public. There are allegorical references opposing Soviet ideology. The book has scenes which flash back to Pontius Pilate’s involvement with the death of Christ which links the soviet mayhem into the collective conscience of good and evil, and these sections really add to the drama!
