Shailesh Yadav

Seeking a book club

I am 29M, been living in London since 2018. I am a curious and analytical person who enjoys understanding how the world works. I’m particularly interested in history, geopolitics, intelligence, psychology, science, philosophy and human behaviour. When something interests me, I tend to go beyond the surface and ask why things happened, how they work and what shaped them. I enjoy reading not just for entertainment, but to challenge my thinking and understand different perspectives. I’d like to join a book club because I want to discover books and ideas that I might not come across on my own, while having meaningful discussions with people who have different opinions and interpretations. I’m especially interested in hearing perspectives that challenge my own rather than simply agreeing with me. I think discussing a book with others can make the experience much more rewarding because you notice ideas, themes and viewpoints that you might have missed while reading alone. Ultimately, I’d like to join a book club to read more widely, think more deeply, meet intellectually curious people and have genuine conversations about ideas rather than just discussing whether we liked a book or not.

Mathematician and avid reader (or trying to). I am drawn towards books that hide a bit of something and gradually reveal underlying themes, challenge new perspectives whether that's in the plot or view point, and characters who enjoy the pursuit of knowledge. A few books I have enjoyed: anything by Borges, In Ascension, The Secret History, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, The Three Body Problem Trilogy, Titus Groan. I like to read factual literature which would challenge my views and teach me something new.

A book that is hard to put into a single genre and takes a while to digest the plot and the timelines - I really enjoy breaking down the story, especially weird ones like this. This is the first book I read by the author and I believe another book by his has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2026.

Zoe Deakin

Seeking a book club

I love reading, I'm especially intentional about reading books by non white authors, as these aren't always the ones that are displayed, however this is definitely getting better. I love reading, I'm a secondary school teacher and reading is something that is a big focus for us on a whole school level. I adore reading, love language, especially as a dyslexic adult who found reading really challenging as a child. I would love to meet people and share our love of stories

Dream Count by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Dream Count
by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie | Learn more and buy
Chiamaka manages to capture the experience of navigating loss and immigrant experiences. this happens through four main characters, Zikora; one that I fell in love with, watching her relationship with her cold mother suddenly turn into one of warmth and closeness, followed by Omelogor, Kadiatou and Chiamaka. this story makes you feel hateful to the way men behave, but champion and love the character and strength these women have, exploring themes of personal loss, resilience, the weight of the "American Dream," and cultural identity between West Africa and the West. The phrase "dream count" originates from one of the main protagonists, Chiamaka, who maintains a literal and emotional accounting of the men in her life while holding onto her fundamental dream: "to be known, truly known, by another.

Jaundre

Seeking a book club

Hi! My name is Jaundre. I’m from Zambia and I’ve recently moved to London, so I’m hoping to meet some new people and make a few friends( if possible). (Ive been reading for a long time stopped and started again) i like books about war, history and historical events, but honestly I’ll give pretty much anything a try. I’d love to find some people who enjoy reading too, have similar interests, and maybe meet up to talk about books or just hang out.

Its about Indian troops and British troops in WW2 fighting against the Japanese in a Indian village, and they had to do hand to hand combat because of lack of ammo.

Amsterdam Women Book Club

Book club

This is a book club for women (including trans) readers who want to focus on women authors. We primarily read literary fiction, but also memoir. I listed London as the closest town, under the assumption that you'll reach Amsterdam by taking the Eurostar (environmentally friendly and easy).

Kimmen

Seeking a book club

I'm a retired professor (UC Berkeley) and scientist (AI and genomics) living in Amsterdam with my husband, a Londoner. I love literature and run two book clubs (The Amsterdam Women Book Club, for women readers focusing on women writers; and Amsterdam Literary Memoir and Essays). Like many readers, I also write (literary fiction, essays, memoir and poetry). When we travel in the UK, I try to join book clubs, to meet fellow lovers of literature.

Yarrow

Seeking a gaming group

Hello! I'm Yarrow, I've played a couple of DND and Call of Cuthulu campaigns before but they unfortunetly haven't gotten very far due to timetable issues which is why I'd really love to commit to a longer one with a group available for regular session! I enjoy being both a player and a DM, my favourite parts are character creation, roleplay and backstory writing! (I am a minor and would like to join an under 18s group)

Whatever you believe on the topic, it’s really important to get an understanding of what is going on outside of our own world. It’s important to know history not in the way that mainstream media would want you to know them so it’s amazing to get a different perspective that may not be in your narrative you been bought up with

Seeking a gaming group

Started playing early this year and have played DnD a handful of times with friends and strangers alike. The games have varied from combat heavy one shots to longer campaigns more focused on role play. I’m mainly looking for a long term DnD group where I can get to experience a fully realised character arc!
