Maria (Bridgend)

Seeking a book club

Hi, I love reading and would love to get to meet people and read then discuss books outside my usual easy reading. Love the Thursday Murder Club (and read a lot of Patricia Cornwell in the past) as well as Marian Keyes, Paige Toon, Shari Lowe and the like. I’d love to hear from anyone in the Bridgend area 😊

Maria recommends:

The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

Loved everything about this book, and so has everyone I leant it to 😊
The Pillars of the Earth
by Ken Follet | Learn more and buy
Captivating storyline following a family through generations. I also loved the interesting details of how the old churches were built and the way of life in the 12th century era.

Kimka (Aberdare)

Seeking a book club

I have recently moved to Aberdare and the first thing on my to-do list is to join the library. I love to read and I am currently reading the Woman in the White Kimono. I like to meet other readers and try their recommendations- it’s a journey!

Kimka recommends:

Frankenstein (Modern Prometheus) by Mary Shelley

This has so much depth and meaning. Since I learned about Mary Shelley and her troubled life I have found the book so moving - it describes her own trauma.

Sian recommends:

The biology of belief.

If you like self-help books that pack a punch, filled with "wows" by an extremely knowledgeable author, then this is the book for you. It inspired me.
I haven't been completely honest with you.
by Miranda Hart | Learn more and buy
It's a real and honest look into the background of someone with problems hiding behind the fame. Witty and a page Turner.

Ollie (he/him) (Pontypridd)

Seeking a gaming group

When it comes to long-format DnD campaigns I've become a bit of a forever DM (admittedly, a role I love). My partner (Nik; she/her) and I recently moved to Pontypridd and so we've been a little lonely and haven't really had a chance to make any local friends yet. We'd love to make a little tabletop group (I can DM or we can rotate) that we can meet and play with in-person. My previous campaigns have always tried to strike a balance between serious and goofy, trying to give the PCs chances for serious moments and roleplay, whilst also not taking ourselves too seriously the rest of the time.

Chloe (Caerphilly)

Seeking a book club

Hello I'm Chloe, 26 and a mum of 3! I don't have much of a social life as a busy mum but would love to find a book club and meet new friends! I've always been a book worm, love all books but I'm a big romance novel lover!

Chloe recommends:

The Switch
by Beth o leary | Learn more and buy
I've always loved Beth as an author and I think her books are lovely to read. The switch was definitely my favourite because I instantly clicked with the characters and just thought it was lovely book to read and get hooked on the relationships and connections made within the book. I would definitely recommend it!
