Silvina (Wigan)

Seeking a book club

I taught literature for nearly fifteen years, and reading has always been a big part of my life. I read in both English and Spanish, and I enjoy all genres — poetry, plays, and novels, especially historical fiction. One of my favourite authors is Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I’ve read The Shadow of the Wind, the whole Cemetery of Forgotten Books series, and his earlier novels too. I also love Ryszard Kapuściński, particularly The Shadow of the Sun, and I’m drawn to his blend of literature, history and political reflection.

RB1995 (Rossendale)

Seeking a book club

I am a 30 year old woman. Looking to meet new friends. I have lived around Rossendale for almost 8 years but don’t have many friends outside of work that live in this area. I love reading. It’s my form of self care and love getting lost in a psychological thriller or a Romance novel. My favourite authors this year have been Frieda McFadden and Colleen Hoover. I have read 3 books by each of these authors in the last 6 months. As well as enjoying other novels too, I have also read a James Paterson book recently, who until I discovered McFadden and Hoover earlier this year, was my favourite and I could never resist picking up his books during my supermarket weekly shops.

The Housemaid

It keeps you thinking all the way through. You are questioning all of the characters and analysing everything trying to find an answer of what is going on. It even makes you question the protagonist of the book. I found it difficult to put this book down! I was so interested and intrigued.

The SnugglyPuff (Skelmersdale)

Seeking a gaming group

Late 40s male, quietly nerdy behind a veil of respectability and professionalism. I'm into board games more than RPGs and am looking for either an established small group or another single person for regular game sessions (potentially day or night possible). By necessity I have been an exclusively solo player (the other half isn't interested!) but now am looking further afield for fellow adventurers. Despite not being into RPGs, I use the term 'adventurers' as the board games I have acquired are largely long campaign games, many of them being narrative-driven and fantasy/horror/sci-fi, E.g. Middara, Gloomhaven, Chronicles of Drunagor, Roll Player Adventures, Descent 2nd Ed, Descent Legends of the Dark, Deep Madness, Machina Arcana, Folklore, Perdition's Mouth, Memento Mori and there are loads more. I'm also especially looking for someone who may be interested in trying out Kingdom Death: Monster with me. I do have a number of other single session games such as Scythe, Spirit Island, Defenders of the Wild, Dwellings of Eldervale, The Others and Lost Ruins of Arnak so I'm not purely looking for those willing to commit to multiple session campaigns. Although I am more than willing to bring along anything in my collection, I don't find myself in a position to host sessions at my house so would be hoping to hear from someone/people who can. If board games are your interest, if you'd like to browse my collection on BGG, or if you want to ask about a specific title, just send me a quick message. Cheers.

Dakota (Burnley & Padiham) (Burnley)

Seeking a gaming group

I have played DnD before but was sadly never able to finish either of the two campaigns. What did play though, I really enjoyed and I'm hoping to find a DnD group near me to play it with. I'm not exactly new to the game but my knowledge of it is still limited so I'll happily take any chance I can get to learn more.

Fantasy reader based in Lancaster

James recommends:

The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie
The Heroes

It's written in Joe Abercrombie's typical style - bloody and muddy. Not a fan of the term grim dark but these books do fall in that bracket and this standalone story is brilliant..
