Nikki (Cranbrook)

Seeking a book club

I’ve had my nose in a book since I was about 3 years old. I love fiction, non-fiction, all sorts of genres, so long as the writing is good. Books I’ve loved this year: Our London Lives; Whistler; The Correspondent; Demon Copperhead; Fruit Fly; London Falling; The Spy and the Traitor; Moonlight Express: Around the World by Night Train; The Nord Stream Conspiracy. All time favourites: A Fine Balance; A Suitable Boy. I work full time, unsociable hours, and would love to meet other keen readers and get to know new people in the area.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

It's a great mix of silly fun and thought provoking storylines. I was wary of this book because of the intense hype around it. However I was a great story with fantastic characters.
Magician by Raymond E Feist

Spectacular world building, great magic system, lovable characters. Don't let the chonk of the book put you off
Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole

Everything! One of my all time favourite series. It's slow going to start with but man does it become epic.
The Rats
by James Herbert | Learn more and buy
The author writes a thriller/horror that makes it feel like the scenario could actually happen. Amazing writing.

I think book lovers are usually good conversationalists, and as I'm a bit of an introverted gran, am looking to join a book club. My books for a desert island would be Howl's Moving Castle, Pride and Prejudice and How to Survive on a Desert Island.

As the series goes on it's amazing how many minor details in earlier books become so important and by Kingdom of Ash it's an absolute rollercoaster of emotions
