Bardbarian (Letchworth)

Seeking a gaming group

Hello! I'm Rachel (35), a voice actor who has just moved to Letchworth Garden City. My main D&D group is in London but I'm really keen to make some new, nerdy friends locally. I love D&D, ganes (PS5/Switch on long flights!) and grew up on the mid 2000s internet with the references to match. Looking forward to the future!

Demetria (Watford)

Seeking a book club

Hello. I like to read mostly fantasy but I read anything. I like retellings as well. Dungeon Crawler Carl is my favorite series at the moment. I wanted to join a book club to make friends and have someone to talk to about books! I think meeting others is a great way to find out about books that I probably wouldn't know about.

Labib (Hemel Hempstead)

Seeking a book club

Hi, I’m a 27-year-old man, and moved to Hemel Hempstead about a year ago. I’ve been reading mostly philosophy and pop anthropology/history recently. Looking to join a book group to hopefully bounce around the ideas and concepts from what I’m reading. Also, looking to meet new people and hopefully make friends in the area!

Labib recommends:

Culture & Conflict in the Middle East
by Philip Carl Salzman | Learn more and buy
Having lived in and read mostly about societies governed by state institutions and rule of law, this book was a sea change in my understanding of how radically different and complex social structures can be among human beings. I really loved how concretely the writer explores the work of ethnographers who really steeped themselves into these societies to explore the role of ‘balanced opposition’ as one of the key forces underlying tribal social structures in various Middle Eastern societies.

Pheasant101 (Bishop's Stortford)

Seeking a book club

I love reading and am lucky enough to (usually) have enough time to read a decent amount. However, I tend to go through peaks and troughs with my reading and would to have a reason to read more consistently. I love both fiction and non-fiction and don’t really have a preferred genre, although I am not into serious gothic or horror etc due to an overactive imagination! I would love to be able to discuss books with like-minded individuals, share recommendations, and enjoy good company. I am happy for meet ups to be tea/coffee and cake during the day, or wine and nibbles in the evening (both sound bliss!).

Pheasant101 recommends:

The Magician
by Colm Toibin | Learn more and buy
A brilliant biography written as a novel. The prose is written in a way that rapidly draws you into the story of the life of the author Thomas Mann as well as giving insight into the events of the time, with a focus on the World Wars and how these enormous events impacted Mann, his family, and friends.

Reece (Kings Langley)

Seeking a book club

I’m 31 year old man living in West Herts. I’d love to turn my passion for reading into a means of socialising with like-minded locals. I’m usually far more comfortable reading classics, but I’m exploring more modern fiction this year too. Literary fiction will always grab by attention, but I’m up to try anything.

Reece recommends:

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
