Christopher (Hemel Hempstead)

Seeking a book club

Having studied English literature at university I really want to re-discover the sheer pleasure of reading for the sake of reading, and to regularly meet-up and discuss new favourites with like-minded people, and, of course, to make new friends. My most recent novel was Bee Sting by Paul Murray which was mind-blowingly great! My current favourite writers are Evelyn Waugh, Barbara Pym, Yoko Ogawa, Philip Roth, Mieko Kawakami, Penelope Lively, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Sayaka Murata and Kazuo Ishiguro. If anyone can recommend local book clubs to join in Hemel Hempstead I’d really appreciate it!

Sandra (Potters Bar)

Seeking a book club

My taste is eclectic. I normally read books that have been recommended. I am not that keen on war stories.

Sandra recommends:

The improbability of love

The story is told through a painting that finds itself in different situations and surroundings.

Gemma (Hemel Hempstead)

Seeking a book club

Hi, I’m 32 and moved to Hemel a couple of years ago. Over the past year, I’ve rediscovered my love for reading and now enjoy a bit of everything — from romance and thrillers to fantasy (honestly, I’ll give most books a go!). I’ve been thinking about joining a book club for a while and would love to meet like-minded people who share a passion for reading. It would be great to connect regularly, chat about books, discover new favourites, and make some friends in the area. If anyone has any recommendations for local book clubs to join, I’d really appreciate it!

jeff (Hatfield)

Seeking a book club

Hello, I am jeff aged 57 I have found reading difficult since my school days. I lack the confidence to read aloud and wish this to change. I am looking for a entry level club that read in turns possibly a page or paragraphs at a time. Not totally sure how the clubs works and would be very interested in finding out more and joining a club in next couple of weeks.

Emma (Hemel Hempstead)

Seeking a book club

I am 29 years old and (fairly) new to the Hemel Hempstead area. I am a little introverted, but like to take people as I find them and open to making new friends. I am really getting into reading and feeling in awe of some of the classics I have tried so far. I would be really happy to meet regularly, perhaps once a month, to discuss new ideas and share book recommendations.

Jordan (Hitchin)

Seeking a book club

I feel like I don’t fit it with the friends I once had and looking to make new friends I have more in common with. A book club seemed like a sensible place to start! I love fiction/fantasy but also would read almost any genre.
