Like the idea of reading books that I wouldn’t necessarily choose myself, to improve scope and interest. Also will enjoy discussing said book with others in informal situation.

I moved fairly recently to Distington and would be interested in a local reading group. I’m not a fast reader but I’d like to have a book on the go.

I have always loved reading and enjoy all types of books, both fiction and non-fiction and everything from autobiographical to thrillers and the latest summer blockbuster. I’m keen to join a friendly group and live in between Whitehaven and Workington.

Book club
A group of mainly women, ranging in age from mid 40s to above 80, has been coming together every month for the past 6 years at the Seaton Library in Workington, Cumbria. They come to discuss a variety of books (poetry, biography, classical literature, and children's books, etc.) that they check out through Cumbria Library Services' Reading Groups Section. As the group is fairly large (15 members) it is currently closed. However, their oldest member has hinted at a possible vacancy in the near future. For members that are visually impaired, the library and the RNIB provide talking books or large print books. Every meeting starts with a discussion based on questions from websites, then refreshments, and often includes celebrations for birthdays, anniversaries, and even a summer trip to the coast. The group also arranges theatre visits, supports activities like fundraising, and participates in World Book Group.
