Hi, I'm 26, living in Salford. I've recently gotten back into reading more mindfully; now I can't seem to stop, nor do I want to. I enjoy contemporary literary fiction and narrative non-fiction, and I'm looking for inspiration; I have an idea for an auddiodrama that I'd like to populate with words and personalities and characters,

Maisy

Seeking a book club

hi! im 23 and I just started my PhD in digital humanities in Manchester. looking for a book club / someone to discuss literary fiction, (modern) classics, and philosophy! but i am open to kooky recommendations. would love to discuss a book over a coffee then hang out / go to the cinema after!!!

Maisy recommends:

The Woman in the Dunes
by Kōbō Abe | Learn more and buy
a kafkaesque exploration of the will of man and capitalism set within a sand dune… sand is everywhere !!!!!
The Eye by Vladimir Nabokov
The Eye
by Vladimir Nabokov | Learn more and buy
Nabokov’s artistic style superimposed on an insecure, self-obsessed ‘ghost’ in the mirror ….. soooo great
Demian
by Herman Hesse | Learn more and buy
a reimagining of The Fall through Jungian psychology with strange bird symbolism??? my dream book!!!
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
by Milan Kundera | Learn more and buy
i just love kunderas way of weaving his own philosophical thoughts about realism/idealism into the narrative. i still think about Teresa carrying a book under her arm.

Hi! I have recently moved to South Manchester and I’m looking for a weekly/fortnightly book group to meet some new friends. I read a big range of genres and I particularly love 20th and 21st century fiction. Favourite authors at the moment are probably Kazuo Ishiguro, Margaret Atwood, Angela Carter etc but I’m open to whatever!

Shannon

Seeking a book club

Hi! I’m 30 and live just 15 minutes away from Manchester town centre. I’m looking to make some new friends discussing my number one passion: books! I mainly read fantasy, but have recently been expanding out into horrors, thrillers, and sci-fi. Have a wonderful day! :)

Shannon recommends:

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
The Final Empire
by Brandon Sanderson | Learn more and buy
Every single moment is actin-packed, and every single book in this series has a fantastic twist and heart wrenching moments, the conclusion of this trilogy has really yet to be topped in my eyes! This introduced me to Brandon Sanderson‘s writing and just cemented him as forever fave and immediate auto-buy author for me.
The Forgetting Moon
by Brian Lee Durfee | Learn more and buy
The characters (especially the dog, Beer Mug) are such a wonderful mix of likeable and easily despise-able, the world is vast and well crafted, and the stakes are so high, you have absolutely no clue. What will happen next!
Assassin’s Apprentice
by Robin Hobb | Learn more and buy
Do you want your heart absolutely shattered into a million teeny tiny pieces? If yes, may I introduce you to the amazing Robin Hobb and her poor fictional child; Fitzchivalry Farseer. I love this book so much I submitted my own beaten, loved and annotated copy as part of my Masters dissertation.

Anita

Seeking a book club

Recently back in the area, and I'd love to find a monthly book club for other bookish folks! Especially 30s/40s, feminist and queer literature and non fiction, ideally somewhere that meets in a pub with readers who want to meet new people!

Deena

Seeking a book club

Hi I'm Deena, Im 23 and live near Bolton and would love to make some bookish friends or join a book club. I mostly read rom-coms and sometimes fantasy but can be open to other recommendations, there just needs to be banter. I am a worshiper of all academic rivals to lovers books... something about them is just MMMMMH iykyk! I feel it's important to mention that i do boycott certain authors due to their links to zionism or the zionist 'state'. You can read what you want but I won't want to chat about certain books (ACOTAR, Fourth Wing etc.) due to this.

The main character book club

Seeking a book club

Hello! I am looking to start a Manchester-based book club centered around dark romance, spicy fiction, and all our favorite morally grey characters. I'm looking to connect with fellow readers in the area who love fast-paced plots, high stakes, and good banter, both on the page and over a drink!
