Seeking a book club

The last couple of years I've really got into reading again after years of not knowing what to read. I've finally found my favourite genre, gothic horror and thrillers. I am open to other genres but really love the horror side. I'm looking for a horror book club near me.

Brilliant description of body horror left me squirming. It's a brilliant horror about survival and filled me with dread!

Looking to join a book group for socialising and explore new interesting reads. I'll mostly go for fantasy, but have been mixing it up recently with murder mystery, nonfiction and have particularly enjoyed the slice of life/fantasy "Legends and Lattes" by Travis Baldree.

CharliePW01

Seeking a book club

I am 23 years old, live in Rustington -- although planning on moving to Southampton eventually -- looking to expand my horizons and look for new opportunities to bond over shared interests and get back into reading. I was previously reading SAGAs, and was especially keen on Rosie Goodwin's 'A Maiden's Voyage' and Emma Hornby's 'A Maid's Discrace' last year.

I really felt a strong connection with the main character and her story, as well as the historical context surrounding the book; I'm personally very drawn to historical SAGAs, particularly those set in this period (Victorian and Edwardian eras). I couldn't put this book down easily, and was always drawn to what would come next, would strongly recommend a read.

Emma

Seeking a book club

I love to read and would like to meet some new people who also love to read. I will pretty much read anything if someone says it's worth my time, but my favourite genre is fantasy (LOTR, Brandy Sandy, Blade Itself, Addie Larue, also a sucker for Fourth Wing/romantasy)

Andy

Seeking a book club

After almost a lifetime of reading as solitary exercise I now think I should meet like minded people. Currently going through the Rebus novels chronologically and have discovered The Kiln by William McIlvanney, an author that influenced Ian Rankin greatly. Although, this is not a crime novel. Milan Kundera is another writer that I admire.

Andy recommends:

Like reading literature. Would happily join play reading too. Would enjoy meeting others to talk about and recommend favourite books.

JOHN recommends:

Mayflies

One of the best novels I’ve read about male friendship. It covers two chunks of time, one when a group of friends are young and on the Hacienda club scene, following The Smiths, and then much later when they’re holding down jobs and coping with major problems. Moving and real.

Nelson's Parrot Reading group

Book club

Gatherings take place monthly at HMP Ford Library, led by Linda Collins, the Prison Librarian. The group is made up of 9 prisoners from differing ages, backgrounds and identities (including faith, disability, ethnicity and sexual orientation), as well as one educational tutor. The PLG (Prison Libraries Group) provide the books, which the individuals are then able to keep. This endeavor is not only intended to foster and promote reading, but also personal book possession. The discussion and evaluations of a selection of books occurs at each session and may include subjects such as bibliotherapy (Mood-boosting Books), English as a second language, graphic novels, lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender topics and writing.
