Seeking a book club

I love horror, sci-fi, fantasy and anything a bit weird or unsettling! My favourite books include Geek Love, Earthlings, Battle Royale and the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I used to work in waterstones as a barista and really miss the book environment and chatting books with people! I love hearing different opinions on things ive read, im an avid good reads review reader and it would be cool to meet more people who read.

Iain

Seeking a book club

Hello, I’m Iain, in my 40s and looking to meet up with others who enjoy books for a chat. I read quite a diverse variety of genres from classics, literary fiction, crime/thriller/mystery and non-fiction too - popular science, history etc. Not so keen on romantic novels though! I work during the day, so an evening or weekend for a monthly meet-up would be great.

I currently play in a Pathfinder group in Edinburgh on Saturday's but am looking for a local in person group for through the week or on Sunday, where I can run or play different games. I have a substantial library of RPG's as well as Board Games

Rain

Seeking a book club

Hi! I'm Rain, in my 30s and I love to read! I read a lot of non-fiction, sci-fi and classic and modern fiction, but I'm too prone to slump in front of a screen at the end of another busy work day. I'd love to join or build a wee group of kind people who want a coffee and chat every month about a book they love - I'd like to read more fantasy and romantasy, and would love to connect with people who know where to start and what to recommend! Weekends would be best for me - please do get in touch if you'd like to start a group or have a group that's taking new members!

Peter

Seeking a book club

I'm a 26 year old looking to connect with other book enjoyers. I don't socialise much at all outside of a couple established friend groups, so I think joining a book club might be a wonderful way to meet some new people. I'm big into fantasy (LoTR, Wheel of Time, Malazan, First Law, Witcher...) and am very curious to discover new recommendations.

Alice

Seeking a book club

I'm 29 years old. I've loved reading since I was a small child but as life became busier, I found myself mostly listening to audiobooks. I have recently picked up physical books again and the joy I get from curling up with a book is something I can't describe. I work from home and don't socialise much, so I think finding or starting a group where we can talk about our passions and favourite books would be wonderful. Late afternoons/evenings or weekends would be ideal. I'm really into fantasy and romantasy but I'm excited to read any genre.

Alice recommends:

Book of Night
by Holly Black | Learn more and buy
This is Holly Black's first Adult Fantasy/Urban Fantasy book, and she did a fantastic job. Both Book of Night and its sequel (Thief of Night) have an incredibly immersive atmosphere, gritty and flawed characters, and a really unique magic system. I've read reviews that mention it's a little slow to start, and while I can understand why that'd be the case for some people, I was gripped from the first line.

Ryan

Seeking a book club

Hi, I’m Ryan and I’m 34 and easy going relaxed guy. By day I’m working full-time, but in every spare moment you’ll usually find me buried in a book—or recently, rediscovering the joy of being buried in a physical one. After a solid four-year stint with audiobooks, I’ve realised how much I missed the simple pleasure of sitting somewhere quiet, turning actual pages, and properly losing myself in a story. Now I’m on the lookout for people who get that feeling too. I’d love to join (or even help build) a book club where we can chat, swap recommendations, and maybe push each other toward books we wouldn’t normally pick up. My go-to genres are sci-fi, fantasy, and romantasy, but I’ve also dipped into everything from medical biographies to heavier, thought-provoking reads—so I’m always open to something new. Mostly, I’m here to meet people who enjoy talking about books as much as I do—the kind of conversations where no one’s eyes glaze over when you start rambling about your latest favourite. If you’ve got a group or are thinking of starting one, I’d genuinely love to hear from you.

Ryan recommends:

A Court of Thorns and Roses
by Sarah J Mass | Learn more and buy
It’s the romantasy that started my love for the genre and everything Fae. I once looked forward to the romance that was blossoming in the beginning but I’ve never quite recovered from the twist and the other story that develops later on. I don’t think I’d ever get tired of rereading the entire series.
God of Fury
by Rina Kent | Learn more and buy
I went into God of Fury a little hesitant. Knowing it was a dark M/M romance, I worried it might lean too heavily on the explicit content and not give me much else. I could not have been more wrong. This book completely consumed me. From the very beginning, I was hooked, and once I started reading, I genuinely struggled to put it down. The characters felt so well-developed and layered that I became fully invested in both of them. Their chemistry was incredible, but what really stood out was the romance itself. The slow burn (at least from one side!) was absolutely brilliant and had me hanging on every interaction. What I loved most was how emotionally invested I became. Just when I thought I knew where the story was heading, Rina Kent threw in twists that genuinely shocked me. Some of the later developments completely caught me off guard and made the book impossible to stop reading. Yes, it’s a dark romance, and yes, there is spice, but for me the heart of this story was the characters, their growth, and their relationship. By the end, I was completely obsessed.

Book Lover

Seeking a book club

I am 38 years old. Currently at the open University studying. I unfortunately have stage 4 endometriosis and have had multiple surgeries and still awaiting 3 more surgeries. This sadly makes it hard for me to do much as a lot of the time im too unfit to go out anywhere or do many activities but the one thing that has kept me going and that has found me happiness and an escape is reading. I love it. I read anything fiction, non fiction, biography, romance, crime. I have been looking to join a book club for a long time but have struggled to find one so would love for anyone who is in a club or wishes to make one to get in touch.
