Bethany (Cupar)

Seeking a book club

My name is Beth, I am 22 years old and have recently moved back to Fife after studying and working in London for the past 4 years. I am an aspiring writer, and like most writers, I love to read! I enjoy creative non-fiction, fantasy, and science fiction. I'd really like to join (or start!) a book club, to meet some new people around the area :)

Bethany recommends:

Isabel (Cupar)

Seeking a book club

I'm 23, recently moved here from the US to join my wife, and I would love to connect with some fellow book lovers:) I enjoy reading English literature, fantasy, and character-driven novels, but can be convinced to pick up almost anything!

Isabel recommends:

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
The Name of the Wind
by Patrick Rothfuss | Learn more and buy
The author's writing style and quirky wit caught me after reading the first page; the well-developed plot and characters kept me intrigued until the very end. Think Phantom Tolbooth-esque dry humor and intelligence in a dark and twisted fantasy. Be warned, the second book is as good as the first, but we've been waiting for the third book to be released for more than ten years!

Seeking a book club

I love horror, sci-fi, fantasy and anything a bit weird or unsettling! My favourite books include Geek Love, Earthlings, Battle Royale and the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I used to work in waterstones as a barista and really miss the book environment and chatting books with people! I love hearing different opinions on things ive read, im an avid good reads review reader and it would be cool to meet more people who read.

Lyra (Kirkcaldy)

Seeking a book club

I'm Lyra, I don't have much of a local friend circle so I'm looking to meet more people. I am a massive fantasy reader but willing to extend my horizons- Terry Pratchett & Brandon Sanderson are my go to.

Lyra recommends:

Going Postal by Terry Pratchett

One of Pratchett's later works and one of his most funny. This one has made me laugh out loud in public transit. Truely an amazing story with a lot of heart.

Iain (Dunfermline)

Seeking a book club

Hello, Iโ€™m Iain, in my 40s and looking to meet up with others who enjoy books for a chat. I read quite a diverse variety of genres from classics, literary fiction, crime/thriller/mystery and non-fiction too - popular science, history etc. Not so keen on romantic novels though! I work during the day, so an evening or weekend for a monthly meet-up would be great.

David (Dunfermline)

Seeking a gaming group

I'm 57 and have played Board Games and Tabletop Roleplaying Games since the early 80's. I currently play in a Pathfinder group in Edinburgh on Saturday's but am looking for a local in person group for through the week or on Sunday, where I can run or play different games. I have a substantial library of RPG's as well as Board Games

Jude (Kirkcaldy)

Seeking a book club

Hi, I'm Jude. I'm an ASN teacher who loves reading pretty much anything, from fiction to non-fiction. I especially enjoy books by women writers, dystopian novels, contemporary literary fiction, and the odd postmodern book that leaves me wondering what on earth I've just read! I'd love to meet some fellow book lovers, discover books I'd never have picked up on my own, and have some good chats along the way.

Rain (Dunfermline)

Seeking a book club

Hi! I'm Rain, in my 30s and I love to read! I read a lot of non-fiction, sci-fi and classic and modern fiction, but I'm too prone to slump in front of a screen at the end of another busy work day. I'd love to join or build a wee group of kind people who want a coffee and chat every month about a book they love - I'd like to read more fantasy and romantasy, and would love to connect with people who know where to start and what to recommend! Weekends would be best for me - please do get in touch if you'd like to start a group or have a group that's taking new members!

Peter (Dunfermline)

Seeking a book club

I'm a 26 year old looking to connect with other book enjoyers. I don't socialise much at all outside of a couple established friend groups, so I think joining a book club might be a wonderful way to meet some new people. I'm big into fantasy (LoTR, Wheel of Time, Malazan, First Law, Witcher...) and am very curious to discover new recommendations.

Alice (Dunfermline)

Seeking a book club

I'm 29 years old. I've loved reading since I was a small child but as life became busier, I found myself mostly listening to audiobooks. I have recently picked up physical books again and the joy I get from curling up with a book is something I can't describe. I work from home and don't socialise much, so I think finding or starting a group where we can talk about our passions and favourite books would be wonderful. Late afternoons/evenings or weekends would be ideal. I'm really into fantasy and romantasy but I'm excited to read any genre.

Alice recommends:

Book of Night
by Holly Black | Learn more and buy
This is Holly Black's first Adult Fantasy/Urban Fantasy book, and she did a fantastic job. Both Book of Night and its sequel (Thief of Night) have an incredibly immersive atmosphere, gritty and flawed characters, and a really unique magic system. I've read reviews that mention it's a little slow to start, and while I can understand why that'd be the case for some people, I was gripped from the first line.

Katrina (Cupar)

Seeking a book club

I have always been creative. I enjoy reading and started again last year having lost interest whilst raising my son. I am now on well on my way after reading 20 books in a year. We all get different things from the books we read, even the same ones. Meeting like minded people and the enjoyment they feel after reading a book.
