A modern take on totalitarian state control, a UK based story not particularly deep on the surface but well written enough to identify with british take on characters, outlook and storyline

I've run Pendragon, Call of Cthulhu D&D (Dragonlance), The One Ring, various World of Darkness games. Favourite remains Call of Cthulhu which I've been running for years. Happy to play anything which isn't too cutesie I run an online weekly session for an international group, but lately I've been tempted to get back around a gaming table and play face to face

30 yo, recently got back into the habit of reading thanks to ACOTAR (my first experience with romantasy and I'm loving it! I'm currently reading ACOWAR), my favourite genres are classic, romance and fantasy! I'm new in the area so I'm looking to meet new people with similar interests :)

I think this is Austen's most interesting book, very different from her other titles! It has mystery and romance, really lovely! I don't know which other book would be really similar to this but the one that comes to my head is Dracula due to the mystery side of things.

Seeking a book club

I hate talking about myself! I am elderly but fit. I am qite well read given that I have a large family so until I became elderly there was not much time tio read. History is of great interest to me. My favourite fiction authors are John Le Carré and Gerald Seymour (I was at school with Fred Forsyth so obviously like his books very much!)

Brian recommends:

A Perfect Spy
by John Le Carré | Learn more and buy
There is an element of autobiography in it as well as it being a great story

Sam

Seeking a book club

I'll read pretty much anything but my preferred genres are literary fiction, historical fiction, thrillers and detective series. Would love to join a monthly meet to share recommendations and discuss our views on a shared read. Have considered setting one up myself but might be too much in my own, so would be open to a shared-set up arrangement too

Sam recommends:

The Marriage Portrait

Great story and characters, beautifully written
The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams

Wouldn't have thought that I'd find a story about the creation of the Oxford dictionary so fascinating but couldn't put it down

I am an 84 year old git who is pretty active. I play old gits cricket as well as attending special dance classes for the elderly including ballet. We are called Silver Swans! I would like to take part in an activity that is less physically demanding. I have always read quite a lot
