A story set in the 1960’s about an Iowa farm wife who meets a National Geographic photographer by chance while her family is away at the Illinois State Fair. Two strangers from different worlds — Robert Kincaid, the free-roaming, globe-trotting photographer, and Francesca Johnson, the Iowa-based farm wife living by the mid-American norms of the day whereby feminism has no place, and a wife stays put for life. The two strike up an intense, short-lived love affair. However, reality and responsibility soon intrude, and the affair ends. The two lovers, torn by separation, return to their previous lives and live out their days longing for what ‘could have been’. The story swept over America, hence the film.

Epic eco-fiction book which weaves together plot lines of multiple characters. Beautifully written.

This book is incredible, so intelligently written and complex. It has it all. Drama, lush, murder and suspense!

The untold story of the nurses who helped to cure Tuberculosis.

A true story of murder and memory in Northern Ireland. Superbly, sympathetically and accurately written, the account focuses on the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Written in 2005, "The Island" is a beautiful and moving tale of four generations rent by war, illicit love, violence and leprosy, from the thirties, through WW2, to the present day. The story of Spinalonga - Greece's former leper colony is incredible, heart-warming and educational. The follow up novel "The Return" continues the story to a modern day conclusion. Both brilliant.

The book is excellently written you will connect the the main character immediately. It’s a band of ordinary people trying to get by in extraordinary times.
