Read to Succeed
Book club
The Leicester College Skills for Life group hosts adult learners with the goal of improving their literacy skills and working towards level 1 and 2 functional skills qualifications. Under the leadership of Claire Knight, the members read Quick Read titles and then get together to discuss the books and write book reviews. At this time, the group is open only to those currently enrolled in English classes at the college. The meetings take place at the Abbey Park Campus in Painter Street, Leicester. People who fit the criteria can join the group. This type of activity falls under the umbrella of bibliotherapy, or the use of books to improve moods. It can also be helpful for English as a second language learners.

Meets at Birstall Library on Run by rosalind vincent Library service We are a group of ten, this number is fixed by the number of books available in sets through the library system. We could supplement those for extra members by requesting extra copies from the library system at the standard charge but so far have decided not to do this. We feel that ten members at the meeting works well and most of our group attend most of the time. We meet every month on the last Thursday, from 5.30 - 6.30 at our local library. We are quite a lively crowd and enjoy a good discussion with very varied opinions. Because the books we read are limited to what\'s available, we read a wide selection, mostly fiction, which we all agree would not always be what we would choose ourselves. Sometimes, it\'s a challenge! For the reason given above, we do not have any spare capacity for new members at the moment but will welcome anyone who wants to be added to the waiting list. We meet at: Wanlip Lane,, Birstall, Leicester LE4 4JU, Birstall, Leicestershire, LE4 4JU Accepting new members Tags online

Hill Of Happiness Social Read Group
Book club
We gather weekly at New Parks Library in Leicester for a bibliotherapy session featuring poems, short stories, and excerpts from novels. Led by Alison Dunne, we check in at the beginning to see how we're feeling on a picture of a hill; the lower we are on the hill, the darker and gloomier our feelings. As the meeting progresses, we note an increase in our emotional wellbeing. In addition to providing companionship, the group has taken part in the Leicester Reading Festival and is looking forward to celebrating Charles Dickens' 200th birthday. Everyone is welcome to join in on Thursdays at 1:00 PM at Aikman Avenue, Leicester, LE3 9PW.
