Beautifully written. A window on the world of Mexico's drug cartels, corruption, and desperate migrants. Also, a story of determination, bravery and love.

Livi

Seeking a book club

Recently completed an English degree. Particularly enjoy reading modern and contemporary fiction that explore the social, cultural and political. Also enjoy Victorian realist fiction. Would be great to meet people who share a love of literature!

Livi recommends:

Erasure by Percival Everett

Intelligent and sharply satiric critique of the United State’s obsession with racial categorisation. The novel has recently been adapted into the film ‘American Fiction’.
The Bluest Eye
by Toni Morrison | Learn more and buy

Morrison’s poetic prose mingles with her stark subject matter to create a novel that is simultaneously beautiful and utterly, incurably bleak. The novel’s opening alone is the most chilling I have ever read…

This Carmarthen choir group meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7pm to 8.30pm for vocal improvisation sessions. It explores the voice through a range of creative activities rather than teaching songs or prepared parts, and it does not perform. Anyone can join, though being able to keep time and sing in tune is said to be helpful. Sessions cost £8 to £10, or whatever the singer can afford.
