Beautifully written story about an Irish family at the time of the Great Hunger. A character-driven story that manages to tell the history of that period through the lives of the characters, who are unusual and completely engaging.

Dark academia style book, myth, magic and love. With a naughty side.

So well written, draws you in to the shock and other emotion of a child going missing and then being found

It’s great because it blends action, magic, and slow-burn romance with a strong, badass female lead. I found it very emotionally intense, and the world just keeps getting deeper the more you read.

Reading this reminded me of being 8 and listening to Harry Potter for the first time.

The magic system is really unique and I love the gothic themes and character dynamics. There is a romance plot but it’s not at the forefront of the story, the world building doesn’t feel contrived. It’s also the first of a duology so it doesn’t get bogged down in trying to drag the story out over 3-5 books like so many others have.

Dark, disturbing and not for the faint hearted based on the ethics of consumption.

This is one of my favourite books! I love the hint to anti-existentialism and I really think it shows the flaws in societal convictions. It also demonstrates the imbalance of power between two beings and how it changes perspective of persecutors and victims
