murphymurphy (Saltburn-by-the-Sea)

Seeking a book club

An English and Philosophy graduate fresh out of uni, and desperately trying to regain some love for reading! I have loved the variety of literature I encountered at uni, but cannot wait to engross myself in books I've chosen, even if they're cheesy murder mysteries!! I love Irish fiction, short stories, and anything concerning ghosts!

I love short stories, so I may be biased - but this is the debut publication of an absolutely fantastic author, the stories are creepy, unsettling, slightly supernatural but conversely, uncomfortably human.
The Dirty Dust
by Máirtín Ó Cadhain (trans. Alan Titely) | Learn more and buy
An unusual, lively translation of Máirtín Ó Cadhain seminal novel Cré Na Cille, often referred to as 'one of the greatest novels written in the Irish language'. The novel has no linear plot, but takes place as an extended conversation between residents of a rural graveyard in West Ireland.

Seeking a book club

Hi, I am like looking to join a book group in order to expand my reading choices, and also to meet new people . I prefer fiction and I favour the quality of the writing rather than the plot or action. Authors I particularly enjoy include Ann Tyler, Elizabeth Strout, Ann Patchett, Maggie O’Farrell and Wallace Stegner.

The characters were so loveable and i read it in almost one sitting. Currently on the last book of the trilogy! The plot is interesting but i think it’s pretty character based. Good for people who enjoy reading books about superheroes but also want a little angst with romance.

Craft and sip (Middlesbrough)

Knitting & crafts

This is an informal idea for a craft and sip group in Middlesbrough, with interest being explored rather than an official club yet. The plan is for people to bring whatever craft they enjoy, such as sewing, embroidery, cross stitch or crochet, and spend time chatting, sharing skills and having a drink. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are mentioned.
